Types of Breast Cancer

Here are the different types of breast cancer, and some short descriptions on each:

  • Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, Malignant Cytosarcoma Phylliodes, Medullary Carcinoma, and Tubular Carcinoma- These are all less aggressive uncommon forms of breast cancer
     
  • Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS)- This cancer begins to form in the milk ducts. Fortunately the survival rate is nearly 100%.
     
  • Infiltrating Ductal Carcinoma- This accounts for approximately 80% of all breast cancer. It arises in the lining of the milk ducts and enters surrounding tissue.
     
  • Inflammatory Carcinoma- This cancer spreads very quickly by plugging the lymphatic and blood vessels.
     
  • Intraductal Carcinoma in Situ- This type of cancer grows in localized areas within the ducts and may not invade other tissue.
     
  • Lobular Carcinoma- A less common form of breast cancer accounting for only 10% of all cases reported. Occurs in both breasts simultaneously.
     
  • Paget's Disease of the Nipple- This occurs when cancer tumors migrate to the nipple causing itching, redness, and soreness.
